Fast food checkins? Your health insurer will like this

How often do you check-in at the McDonalds, Burger King or Kentucky Fried Chicken with Foursquare or any other location based service? How often do you check in at your gym? Either way, health insurance companies should love this information. Next time you are going to the doctor or are admitted to a hospital, your social graph could be more important than you ever thought.

The all-revealing social graph

Your social graph probably reveals the kind of person you are. How likely you will go for fast food, how often you exercise and even what kind of groceries you buy. And probably you are sharing most of it online with your friends already. Well actually not only with your friends, you share it with the world, including your health insurer, your future employers, your family, the future love of your life or any other people that might be of any importance for you now or in the near future.

So what are you revealing already and what habits (going to a bar 6 days week?) were better not shared by you? Probably there are quite some things you had preferred not to have shared with the world and just shared it in a close circle of friends. On the other hand, if you aren’t sharing you are on a certain location (at the bar) doing a certain activity (drinking beer), somebody else might do it for you. They might add you at their checkin in Facebook places, or a total stranger is sharing a picture of the bar on his Facebook and you are in the background drinking your beer.

Exposing immoral behavior

Everything you do is likely to be recorded and to become public anyway, especially if you trying to hide it. Therfore don’t try to hide the fact you are 6 days in a bar drinking beer or that you are more frequent at the McDonalds than most of its staff. There is no use in hiding it, people will find it out anyway either via social media or via another channel, either shared by you or somebody else.

If you are doing something that you shouldn’t be doing, don’t be angry if it will be leaked by anybody. You might want change your behavior, it is likely that when everything will be recorded and shared online that you cannot pretend being somebody you are not, you cannot pretend to not have certain habits. Some might think this is a good thing, that all immoral behavior is exposed, for others this might be the ultimate nightmare…
