Have some more uncertainty

Knowing what you will be doing gives you the feeling that everything will be alright. It will be okay if you want to achieve the same thing as you always did.

Uncertainty creates value

Our ability to make the most out of uncertainty is what creates the most potential value. We should be fueled not by a desire for a quick catharsis but by intrigue. Where certainty ends, progress begins.

Embrace uncertainty more since you will likely see things you haven’t seen before, allowing you to learn. However, it will also give you a new situation in applying your skills and developing any new skills you might need.

Uncertainty unlocks meaning

‘The quest for certainty blocks the search for meaning,’ argued the social psychologist Erich Fromm. ‘Uncertainty is the very condition to impel man to unfold his powers.’ Uncertainty is where things happen. It is where the opportunities – for success, for happiness, for really living – are waiting.

Though uncertainty is not just something, you should look for in work. Look it up in your private life as well. Take a different route on your walk, and do other exercises in the gym. Instead of ordering in a restaurant, take an unknown plat du jour, or let a friend order.

You might not always like the outcome, but at least you learn about this outcome and yourself. If you did not change anything, you would have learned nothing new.
